Red Hook Farms

Brooklyn’s largest urban farm, located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, is now a project of Red Hook Initiative. The two farms in Red Hook collectively grow hundreds of tons of organic produce and provide a homegrown classroom to educate and employ youth. Red Hook Farms is vital to our bounty of community resources. Support local farms, youth jobs, & good eats!

Red Hook Farms CSA

What is a CSA? A CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is an arrangement where at the beginning of the season (late spring/early summer) a group of people buy shares of the upcoming harvest directly from a farm. Then, every week they pick up their individual share of vegetables until the end of the season. This group of people are investing in the farm! The farmer benefits from a guaranteed group of buyers and the CSA members benefit from fresh, affordable produce. As with any investment, the farmer and the CSA members share in the triumphs and struggles of growing food. A bad year for cucumbers is a tragedy for all but a great season for tomatoes means that members get pounds and pounds for salsas galore!

Fresh Food Box

What’s the Fresh Food Box? How is that different than the CSA? We are offering a discounted promotion for NYCHA residents and/or those using SNAP – sign up week to week for a bag of fresh, organic vegetables grown at Red Hook Farms. Veggies vary week to week, depending on what is ready to harvest. Just like the CSA, each week there will be 7-10 different vegetables. Unlike the CSA, no commitment is necessary, just sign up and pay for the veggies the week before, and come pick up your veggie bag the following week. Like what you got? Sign up for another week! Going away? Skip a week! Each bag is $8 and you can pay with cash, credit/debit, or SNAP (FMNP not eligible). Pick ups will be at Red Hook Initiative on Thursdays, 5-7pm. The program runs from June 20-November 21.

Interested in more information or want to sign up for Fresh Food Box? Email or come to RHI on Thursdays 5-7pm to sign up in-person for the following week!

Volunteer with us!

Drop-In Volunteering:

We welcome drop-in volunteers to drop in April-November on Saturdays, 10am-1pm. Come dressed for the weather and ready to get dirty. No RSVP required, just show up and we’ll put you to work! Children are welcome for farm volunteering so long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Organized Volunteer Events:

Farm staff work with a variety of corporate groups and non-profits to host meaningful and productive volunteer events for their staff. We are able to accommodate groups of 10-30 people to tackle a variety of tasks – turning windrows, pulling weeds, harvesting, and special building projects, all while getting dirty and having fun! We typically ask for a $35/person donation to help us cover the cost of materials and staff time. Please email us at to schedule a volunteer day on the farm.
